There are so many utility poles in the city that you can say that there are no days you don't see. It is a common utility pole that is part of the city's scenery, but if you take a closer look, the utility pole will have various facilities! Actually, utility poles support people's lives in many ways.
This time, let ’s take a look at the power pole nuisance!

From the illustrations, not only the lines for supplying electricity (high-voltage distribution lines and low-voltage distribution lines) but also a lot of communication lines such as the Internet, telephones, and cable TVs that everyone often uses in daily life. I understand that the power pole plays a very important role.
There are a lot of lines, and they look similar at first glance, but actually they have different roles.

Various telephone poles

There are three ways to call a telephone pole depending on the line it is hanging on. The first is the “electric power pole”, which has electric wires to send electricity to everyone's home. The second is “Denshin-bashi”, which has communication lines such as the Internet, telephone, and cable TV. And the third is that both electric wires and communication lines are applied. This is called “Kyoyochu” because both the electric wire and the communication line are applied.

There are several types of materials, but there are several types of materials. The most common ones are utility poles made of concrete. Other wooden pillars using wood. There is also a steel pipe column (steel pipe) that uses steel called steel pipe. Thinking about the situation of the place that is being built, the most appropriate one is used for each place.

How to easily distinguish utility poles

As I wrote before, there are three different ways to call the power pole, “telegraph pole”, “common pole” and “common pole” depending on the line on which the pole is applied. If you look at the tag, you can easily identify it.

In the Kansai region (Kansaichi Iki), the number tag with the letters of the alphabet such as “E”, “W”, “S”, “N” indicating the mark of Kansai Electric Power, East, West, North and South In that case, it is a power pillar managed by Kansai Electric Power. Also, in the case of a number tag with the NTT West mark or alphabets such as “L” and “R”, it is a telegraph pole managed by NTT West. In addition, the one with both number tags is a common pillar. These telephone pole number tags are installed at a height of about 3m from the ground, so let's search for them.

How high is the telephone pole?

The height of the utility poles varies from place to place, from 6m to 16m. However, when building a utility pole, there is a rule that about one-sixth of the total length must be buried in the ground, so everyone sees about 5 to 13 meters.

What is it on the telephone pole?

First, things like buckets are called transformers. Electricity with a voltage of 6000V or more is flowing through the wires on the power pole. I need 100V or 200V electricity to run TVs, refrigerators, and air conditioners in everyone's homes. So in order to use electricity at home, it is necessary to reduce the large voltage to a small voltage, and the transformer plays the role.

Another kind of paper lantern is called a lightning arrester, which has the function of letting the electricity from the ground escape to the ground so that the utility pole does not break. What

1. How do you build a power pole?

"How do you build a power pole?" Kansai Electric Power has been building long utility poles as they are, but now most of them are built using the “two-next (next)” method. Two (next) is a way of building, in which one utility pole is divided into two parts, one above and one below, and the two are connected at the place where the utility pole is set up. By using this method, you can easily carry a utility pole, and you can safely build a utility pole without hitting anything around when you build it.

2.What is the telephone pole number and what is it?

I found that there are three types of utility poles, but let's take a closer look at the power poles managed by Kansai Electric Power. Each telephone pole has a different number tag, which has a telephone pole number.

The name of the area called “Kansho”, the “Through No” that follows the order in which they are in order, and the “Branch direction” are written so that the direction can be understood. Through No is the order from the side where electricity is sent, such as a substation, and when divided in the middle (direction), the direction is the alphabet of E (east) W (west) S (south) N (north) You can understand. Everyone should check the telephone pole numbers connected to their homes.

If you discover that an object is stuck or cut off, you can tell Kansai Electric Power the location of the nearby utility pole and immediately know where it is. If something gets caught on the wire, look for the pole number and contact Kansai Electric Power.

3. The appearance of the power pole with an exquisite balance

There are various devices on the power pole to prevent it from falling. For example, some utility poles are equipped with branch lines or poles to balance the force applied to the utility pole and prevent the utility pole from falling over. The branch lines and pillars are not attached to all the power poles, but are attached to the necessary power poles based on the last power pole to which the wires are connected and the strength of the wind in the building.

The electric wire on the utility pole is the weight between the utility poles, about 50kg per one. Also, in the case of a utility pole at the end, about half that force is applied by the electric wire. If the wind blows, a load of several hundred kg may be applied.
In the case of a utility pole like the one shown in Fig. 1, there is no need for a branch line or a column because it is pulled from both wires and the same force is applied. On the other hand, the power poles like the illustration 2 only have a force pulled from one side, so you can see that such power poles need support such as branch lines.

4. What do you do with old telephone poles?

The power poles are regularly inspected and exchanged.
By the way, all the old concrete pillars that have been replaced are recycled, and concrete becomes the material for roads, and the reinforcing bars inside are reborn as materials for iron making. What?

5.Don't you feel an electric shock on a bird on a wire?

“I see a bird on the wire, but why don't I get an electric shock?”-I wonder if there are many people who have thought this way.

The reason is that the birds are on a single wire. Electricity flows from low to high when the voltage is high, but because the voltage of electricity flowing through a single wire is the same, the bird does not carry electricity and does not get an electric shock. If a bird stops on two electric wires with different voltages, or touches another object such as a utility pole while staying on one electric wire, electricity flows and it causes an electric shock.
Everyone should never touch the wire.
