How Adidas turn plastic bootles into shoes ?

Adidas is convinced that the brand has an impact on addressing environmental issues. Adidas has used creativity and imagination to find ways to reduce environmental impact and turn plastic waste into something more convenient. Together with the environmental organization Parley for the Oceans, he tackled the challenge of using marine plastic waste as a raw material in its products and unveiled its first concept shoe at the United Nations in New York in 2015.

The shoe upper was made from recycled thread and fiber collected from marine plastic waste and illegal deep-sea fishing nets. Since then, Adidas has developed a variety of clothing and shoes made from plastic waste recovered from remote islands, coastal and coastal communities around the world. Such plastic waste is collected, washed and processed into yarn by Parley and its worldwide cleanup network. Used to make shoes and apparel. Since the launch of the first generation of adidas x Parley products in 2016, we have produced over 5 million pairs of shoes made from marine plastic waste.

In 2019, another 11 million pairs will be manufactured. This activity has prevented more than 1,400 tons of plastic waste from flowing into the sea. Adidas, as a company, is committed to a plastic-free future. We are exploring new alternatives to plastics and are working to phase out all unused polyester, if any, in Adidas products by 2024. In addition, we eliminated plastic bags in stores and eliminated microbeads from all body soaps. Offices around the world prohibit plastic disposables.

We also believe that education is key to tackling plastic pollution. Since 2017, the annual Run For the Oceans (RFTO) initiative, sponsored by Adidas, is helping to raise awareness of plastic issues and take action around the world with the help of sports. Every kilometer you drive will contribute $ 1 to the Parley Ocean Schools educational program. This program educates young people about the importance of protecting the sea, the problem of plastic waste, and behaviors to live in harmony with the environment, thereby shaping the future in working for a healthy sea and a clean planet. Empower the generations that carry it.

The future is in our hands

To avoid this catastrophic scenario, we must stop making and using plastic. If you still consume disposable plastic and buy products made from unused plastic, you are destroying your environment and shortening your lifespan.

It may sound like a daunting challenge, but there are simple actions we can take to drive the change we need. Choose recycled plastic products over disposable plastics. Or, if possible, avoid using plastic in everyday life. Collect plastic waste from coasts, rivers, parks and downtown. We support politicians, governments, and businesses working toward a plastic-free future, and not those who are not. To work together to create a better world through imagination and collaboration.

These may seem trivial, but millions of actions can be a big influence. Encourage people around you and start working towards the end of plastic pollution. For our seas, our EARTH, and ourselves.

underwater, ultraviolet rays and erosion accelerate the decomposition of plastics into small pieces of plastic. These microplastics range in size from rice grains to a fraction of a micrometer. When plastics of any size are swallowed by marine organisms, they can flow through the digestive tract into the animal's bloodstream, which can reduce fertility, damage organs, and even be life-threatening. And what is harming marine life right now can harm us soon.
